This article analyzes the symbolic meaning and representation of solitude in William Wordsworth’s poem “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud.” As a dominant romantic poet, Wordsworth often highlighted emotion, nature, and individual experience. This study aims to reveal how the poet uses symbolism specifically over natural imagery like clouds and daffodils to mirror internal states of solitude, memory, and inspiration. The research uses a qualitative textual analysis method, focusing on literary devices and romantic themes. The findings uncover that solitude is not described as loneliness, but as a powerful action for emotional growth and poetic reflection. Wordsworth’s vivid imagery alters an ordinary natural scene into an experience that has a deep meaning. The poem demonstrates the romantic ideal that nature and contemplation are origins of personal insight. This article concludes that Wordsworth’s symbolic use of solitude uplifts the poem beyond a simple nature description and into the human experience on a deeper reflection.
